Come discover quintessentially Tuscan wine country in the heart of the Boland. Just like the vines have created and shaped a distinctive Mediterranean culture since Roman times, so they have woven their magic here in a beautiful corner of the Western Cape. Nestled in the Hawequa mountains at the end of an oak-lined cul-de-sac you will discover Welgegund. This family owned boutique wine farm in Wellington rejoices in its South African roots whilst embracing the savoir-faire of the Continent.
Welgegund means well-bestowed and you do not have to venture far to appreciate how appropriate this name is.
For the past decade, grapes for award-winning premium wines have been grown here. Welgegund is one of the very few farms in South Africa growing Carignan, a southern French grape varietal of Spanish origin. Of particular joy, is the farms rosé, DIVINA, the only Carignan based rosé in the country.
In the Mediterranean, wine is a way of life and it is this philosophy that is celebrated at Welgegund. A passion for the land and its produce is savoured in every bottle. A visit to Welgegund, a scenic 50 minute drive from Cape Town, is a must for every wine lover, as it has been for groups of Spanish wine makers!
Meet our winemaker
Daniel Langenhoven is a Boland boytjie – he grew up playing rugby amongst the local orchards and vineyards and the lifestyle is in his blood. It is perhaps this early influence that would steer him to make a career in the cellars. Daniel has made a mark for himself in the industry; garnering awards for the many labels he has had a hand in over the years.

At Welgegund, we invite you to sip, savour and celebrate the Mediterranean way of life. Food and wine are synonymous with the hospitality of the Southern European experience. Flavours are fresh, robust and uncomplicated. The pace is languid – the hospitality generous.

But above all, the emphasis, is an quality, taking the time to know the brightness of the sky, the fruits of the vine; revelling in spontaneous, glorious, inspiring moments.
